Setting the Standard: Our Ethical Promise in Every Project

Our 15-Point Code of Ethics

At T & G Roofing and Solar Company, Inc., we believe professionalism, integrity, and quality workmanship should be the standard for every roofing contractor. Our 15-Point Code of Ethics outlines the qualities we believe every reputable roofing company should follow. When choosing a contractor, this list can serve as a helpful guide of questions to ask before hiring someone to work on your roof.

T & G Roofing and Solar proudly meets each of these 15 standards. Contact us today for a free estimate.

1. Contractor’s License

Always ask to see a copy of the contractor’s license and verify it through the California Contractors State License Board at www.cslb.ca.gov. Unfortunately, many roofers operate with suspended or no licenses at all.

2. Liability Insurance

Your contractor should carry liability insurance that protects you in the event of property damage or a filed claim. Always request proof of coverage.

3. Workers’ Compensation Insurance

Roofing contractors should carry workers’ compensation insurance to protect both workers and homeowners if an injury occurs on the job. T & G Roofing and Solar is fully insured through State Fund Insurance, as required by law.

4. References

Ask for references from projects completed within the last three months. At minimum, you should receive addresses so you can review the contractor’s work firsthand.

5. Check for Complaints

Research online reviews through Google, Yelp, Angie’s List, and similar platforms. A history of unhappy customers is a major red flag.

6. Employee Training Program

Proper training matters. Roof installers should be formally trained and manufacturer-certified to ensure quality installation procedures and long-term performance.

7. Quality Control

A professional roofing company should follow a detailed inspection process throughout the project. Ask for the contractor’s quality control checklist and compare it to our 19-Point Quality Control Checklist to ensure the best value.

8. Signed Contract

Never accept an estimate you do not fully understand. Contracts should be clear, detailed, and signed by the company owner or a CSLB-authorized representative.

9. Lien Waiver

If a contractor fails to pay suppliers, a lien can potentially be placed against your property. Always request a lien waiver before making final payment.

10. Manufacturer Certification

Your contractor should be certified to install the products they sell. Proper training ensures the roof is installed according to manufacturer specifications and protects your warranty coverage.

11. Material Warranty

Roofing systems should include a manufacturer warranty. As a GAF Master Elite Contractor, we can offer up to a 50-year manufacturer warranty and up to a 25-year workmanship warranty.

12. Labor Warranty

Ask to review the labor warranty before work begins. While many companies only offer 1–3 years of coverage, T & G Roofing and Solar offers labor warranties ranging from 5–25 years, with maintenance warranty options available.

13. Company Longevity

Many contractors go out of business within the first few years. Choosing a company with a long-standing reputation provides confidence that warranties and service commitments will be honored in the future.

14. Attic Ventilation Inspection

Proper attic ventilation is critical for roof lifespan, energy efficiency, and warranty protection. A properly ventilated attic helps regulate temperatures and reduce cooling costs during the summer months.

15. Professionalism

Professionalism should be reflected in every phase of the roofing process, from communication and scheduling to problem resolution and customer service. A reputable company handles challenges responsibly and professionally.
